Developing Career Counseling Program with Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy to Improve Career Competence Vocational High School Students

Abstract


The purpose of this study is to develop a group-counseling program to improve the competence of students in vocational careers. Career Competency is the ability of individual in making decisions about further education and work based on knowledge, attitudes, and skills. It is assumed that the career development of an individual's role in the world.

This research uses the Research and Development (R & D), with research steps as follows: (1) Preparation of Development Model, (2) Designing Model hypothetical, (3) Feasibility Model hypothetical, (4) Preparation of Model Home, (5) Field Test Initial Model, and (6) Results Product. The results of the model development of career counseling rational emotive behavioral therapy to improve the competence of students' career vocational schools are: (1) Rational, (2) Vision and Mission Group Counseling, (3) Interest Counseling career, (4) Fill Counselling Career (5) Support career counseling system, and (6) Stages of career counseling.

Career counseling model can effectively improve the competence of vocational students’ career on all indicators. It is based on the difference in scores on the initial evaluation by 889 points and the final evaluation by 1019 points, which increased by 8.2%, or arithmetic significance (sig. 2-tailed) of 0.006 at the 95% significance level (0.05), Hence the significance value count <0.05 then the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected, while the alternative hypothesis is accepted.
