Abstract
The objective of this study was to identify the relationship between emotional intelligence and the quality of university life of Guidance and Counseling students in Satya Wacana Christian University. A descriptive correlation design was utilized to collect data using self-reported questionnaire from 112 students. The results revealed students’ emotional intelligence and students’ perception of the overall quality of university life were very significantly correlated (r = 0,672 **, p < 0,001. It was concluded there was a significant strong positive relationship between emotional intelligence and students’ overall perceptions of the quality of university life; further analysis through cross tabulation indicated that, out of 76 students (67,9%) are at the high and very high level of emotional intelligence, there were 49 (43,8%) and 27 (24,3%) students at the high and very high level of their perception of the quality of the university life. The results suggested the university or faculty should enhance students’ perception to the quality of the university learning students, particularly, in cultivating hardy skills and attitudes towards university learning through developing students’ emotional intelligence. Lecturers should observe closely students for psychosocial health indicators such as their perception of the quality of university life.
