Abstract
Speaking skill is an important thing for every student to possess, because it is used as a form of communication among human beings. It is one of the language skills being taught since the students enter the Elementary Schoolfor the first time. One of the speaking activities is story telling. The problem in this research is “What is the effectiveness of the story telling learning model based on suggestopedia and traditional play song on the story telling ability of Grade 5 students in learning Bahasa Indonesia at the Elementary School?” Its research objective is to find out the effectiviness of the story telling learning model based on Suggestopedia and traditional play song on the story telling ability of Grade 5 Elementary School students in learning Bahasa Indonesia.
This research is a quasi-experiment. The independent variable of this research is the learning model based on suggestopediaand traditional play song; the dependent variable is the Grade 5 Elementary Schoolstudents’skill in story telling. The population of this research is Grade 5 Elementary School students in Salatiga.The sampling uses the purposive random samplingtechnique. The technique of data collection uses a test to measure the student’s story telling skill.An expert judgement is used to test the validity. Normality test uses Kolmogorov-Smirnov method andits homogeneityuses Leven’s test of equality of error variancesmethod. The collected datawere analyzed with anIndependent T-test.
The conclusion of the research is that the learning model based on suggestopedia and traditional play songis more effective than the conventional type of learning. It is proven that the posttestscore in the story telling based on suggestopedia andtraditional play songs is higher than the average class score in the experimental class, i.e., 21.97compared to the posttest average score in the conventional story telling learning.
