Early Childhood Classroom Management to Increase the Student’s Social Skills

Abstract


In this research found some children engage in problem behaviour to developing their social competence that is typical of particular stage of development as they build relationships with peers in their early childhood and that is the biggest challenges for teachers to support young children who have problem behaviour beyond what might be expected. Children may use problem behaviour to get their needs met for a variety of reasons for example: a child may have language development problems, social emotional delays, difficulties with peer interactions, developmental disabilities and have not had opportunities to learn appropriate social or communication skills before entering preschool. It is critically that early educatios identify children who need focused instruction, children who may be considered at risk for challenging behavior so teachers can guide them to learn new social and emotional skills by arranging some appropriate activities and design them in their classroom management.

The effective classroom management strategies are emphasis on using:

1)      Social scrip’s to teach turn – taking, *) sharing and other needed skills

2)      Taking pair less mature children with those who have stronger social abilities

3)      Social stories and story books to teach valued social skills

The result show a training program can increase the social skills and reduce problem behaviors of children, from 25 students are observed in age 5-6 years there are totally 7 items as social skills aspects: communication got 72%, cooperation got 80%, assertion got 76%, responsibility got 72%, engagement got 80%, empathy got 72 % and self-control got 80%. It is indicated that more 50% of 25 students are good in social cooperation, social interaction and social independence. Yet, preschool children are important in social development as they are in other development areas as well.
