Durkheim highlighted the importance of social solidarities counterbalancing individualization. We explore the relationship of collectivism, social capital and welfare institutions with unionization and employer-employee interdependence. The findings highlight the interconnectedness of societal and workplace features and solidarities, suggesting that workers have stronger mutual and organizational ties in such circumstances.
